Hydra Conversations

In October 1977 I was in Europe on study leave, and on the Greek island of Hydra I caught up with an old friend I hadn’t seen for some 20 yrs – a guitar and bass player called Bill Pownall, who had been something of a musical mentor to me in my early twenties. I had brought a small cassette recorder with me for interview purposes, and I used this to record these two musical conversations that I had with Bill over a retsina-laden lunch. All we had agreed on when we began playing was a key – otherwise they are both totally free improvisations.
